I attended Duo Affinite’s astounding concert at Vernon’s Performing Arts Centre this past weekend. With the musicians’ permission, I returned the next day to draw them during their matinee performance. Nadina, with her beautiful burgundy bassoon, shocking blue hair, layers of leather silk and feathers was simply stunning.
Guy Few and Nadina play pieces composed especially for them in the Baroque tradition. Guy plays several kinds of trumpets including a corno da caccia as well as the piano.
It is good to be back to painting. I have been down with a cold for the past week.
My goal in this piece is not to paint a perfect portrait but rather to capture the essence of Shae and the joy she exudes when spending time with her pony “Little Joe”. To do this I am using both a colourful pastel palette to magnify the youthful skin and cheery atmosphere, as well as loose strokes to retain freshness and movement. I love everything about capturing and depicting motion.
