There is something just so touching about a sleeping kitten. I have three sleepy cats that provide a constant source of painting subjects ... and hair. But no vacuuming today ... Happy Mother's Day!
The morning after my son and his fiance found this kitten (now aptly named Pumpkin) on the highway he was curled up in the crook of my husband’s arm purring loudly and kneading his paws madly. The epitome of happy and thankful to his rescuers.
This painting was won by Evelyne MacMillan in a “lottery” at the Annual Christmas Party for the Central Okanagan Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists. For the event, participating members were supplied in advance with a 5x7 panel to create a piece to contribute the event.
As I was preparing to paint, Pumpkin joined me in the studio for a nap. Making some quick decisions as I knew he wouldn’t stay long, I dashed down a quick oil sketch using the 5 colours that were on the palette. What a fun way to focus on the important stuff and the results in just 20 minutes are very rewarding!
Pumpkin is the second kitten my son has rescued and brought home to two of the biggest pushovers ever!
And how perfect is a Pumpkin on the All Hallow’s Eve!
Our outdoor cat looking very comfortable indoors sleeping on the bed where she once was repeatedly snuck to by our son. A spot she now covets whenever she evades us upon each and every open door!
Another medium test for the versatility of this particular water media paper with the intentions of producing our own sketch books. So far I am pleased with the paper, my partner in crime is still testing and has a more experienced hand with water colour and papers in general.
